Work practice in summer 2009

In summer 2009, Faculty of Engineering Mahidol University must sent cover letter to a lot of company. The letters were signed in company letter. It is an important subject in course outline. The year 3 students must taste to worked in company. We have been sent to company. We worked realistic. We chose likely company. I prefer chose EGAT. Because, EGAT is prime generator in Thailand and I want to improve my electrical skills.

Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) was established on May 1, 1969. EGAT brand vision is “To be the very best at helping people enjoy an easier and better everyday life that will bring happiness and success”. EGAT use gas, lignite, steam, water, and air to generate electric energy. EGAT do not only generator. But, EGAT have buy and sell. EGAT have purchase electric energy from private power company or neighboring countries. The nieghborhood is such as Malaysia. They transmitted by DC lines. Because, They avoid different frequency. EGAT is a stake in the economic and social. EGAT control electric energy for enough consumer in Thailand. EGAT transmit electric energy to the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA). Then, They transmit electric energy to minor consumer. EGAT have more power plants such as Wang Noi Power Plant, South Bangkok Power Plant, Bang Pakong Power Plant, Nam Phong Power Plant and other plants where are spare. I signed in central EGAT. It locates at 53 Moo 2 Charunsanitwong Road, Bang Kruai, Nonthaburi 11130 Thailand. This EGAT have a power plant. It calls North Bangkok Power Plant. At the past, It is lignite power plant. Now, It is underconstruction. It will be combine cycle. It uses heat and steam turbine. I had work practice here. Because, I considered to visit new power plant from the beginning.

I must got up at 5 A.M. . I am not used to getting up in the dawn. In first day, I get up late at 5.45 A.M. . I quickly shower and dress. Then, I run as fast as I can. I in time take a organisational bus at 6.00 A.M. . In another day, I early got up. Because, I early go to bed and I do not want to be confused. This company is start working at 8.00 A.M.. At 12.00 P.M. is time to break. Then, We finished working at 4.00 P.M. .

I worked in Department of Protective Relay. The Department of Protective Relay contain 6 personnel in two sections. The first is engineering. The second is technical. They separate 2 teams. They include 1 engineer and 2 technicians in one team. This department is sloved a problem with high volatage electrical protection. I have a supervisor to take care me. His name is Pronchai Poonnak. He is an engineer. He is a chief of Protective Relay. He have a lot of electrical skills about protective. He suggest the idea to me. He answer me everything what I am interested. I trained calibrated, fixed, and analyzed skills by him. My responsibility are electrical analysis such as how to protect busbars and lines from overload current or ground fault. It is very important. Because, It causes an error of all electrical substation. It is mean that will cut off electric energy. The other one is fixed and calibrated testing tools. I calibrated Fluke multimeter with power supply. I fixed some Fluke multimeter that was dead screen. I repaired some relays . I have a semi project. It is changing display screen of digital relays. The old display is gas. It unclear watches when using it long time. Then, We would rather changed it with LED Display. Someday, we have seminar and trained by expert.

Finally, I have learned behaved in work. I have learned a lot of electrical skills. It was different in some theory. Necessary, I am familiar with new good friends.
